48,249 women provided with a three-month supply of iron folate

Iron supplementation is important to support a healthy pregnancy, and findings from a 2010-2011 government report in Afghanistan suggested that anemia among pregnant women is prevalent in urban areas at 11 percent, and in rural areas at 17 percent. SHOPS Plus provides technical assistance to the Afghan Social Marketing Organization (ASMO), a leading non-governmental organization that promotes maternal and child health. As a result of this partnership, iron folate sales provided over 48,249 women with a three-month supply of iron folate supplements during pregnancy.
